US President Donald Trump has unveiled a plan aimed at ending the ongoing war in Gaza, with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressing his support. The plan calls for a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from the besieged enclave and the creation of an international body to oversee the full disarmament of Hamas and the demilitarisation of Gaza.
Trump said the plan will establish a new oversight body called the Board of Peace, which will include former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other figures to be named later.
Under the plan, Hamas will have no role in governing Gaza, either directly or indirectly, as international technocrats temporarily take charge of administration in the post-war period. So far, Hamas has not confirmed the deal.
