Thirty-five years have passed since the reunification of West and East Germany. Today, Chancellor Friedrich Merz marked the anniversary by warning that liberal democracies, including Germany, are under attack from both inside and outside the country. French President Emmanuel Macron was also present, urging Germany to take on a larger role in Europe.
