Donald Trump released his “Comprehensive Plan to End the Gaza Conflict” on 29 September, and on 8 October he announced Israel and Hamas had agreed to the first phase- a ceasefire and hostage deal.
For some, like Lynn Westmoreland, a former US Republican Congressman, the 20-point document is a positive step. He says it represents a path to peaceful co-existence between Israelis and Palestinians.
But others, such as Craig Mokhiber, are more critical.
When he resigned as head of the New York office of the UN high commissioner for human rights in late October 2023, he wrote: “we are seeing genocide unfolding before our eyes, and the organisation that we serve appears powerless to stop it.”
Two years on, he says the Trump plan is a blueprint for the subjugation of Palestinians, and the sidelining of their representatives.
