Fighting for democracy in Belarus from exile | DW News

Belarusian activist Hanna Fedaronak fled her country to avoid imprisonment. From exile in Poland, she continues to fight for democracy, even as her family is targeted back home. In June 2025, Siarhei Tsikhanouski, a blogger and opposition figure, was freed after nearly five years in prison. His wife, Sviatlana Tsikhanouskaya, who ran against Lukashenko in Belarus’s disputed 2020 election, now leads the opposition from exile. Together with activists like Hanna Fedaronak, they keep pushing for the release of over 1,000 political prisoners — and for a free, democratic Belarus.
