Hungary heads toward one of its most closely contested elections in years, with many still standing behind Prime Minister Viktor Orbán. But for the first time in over a decade, Orban’s ruling Fidesz party is trailing the biggest opposition party, TISZA, and their lead candidate Péter Magyar in many polls. A planned summit with US leader Donald Trump and Russia’s President Vladimir Putin that may have bolstered his position is now on hold, challenging his push to regain momentum.
