The asylum seeker and sex offender Hadush Kebatu was mistakenly freed from prison.
He is due to be deported back to Ethiopia as early as tomorrow, after he was apprehended by the Metropolitan Police.
This is not the first time an offender has been released by mistake, as in the year to March 2025, 262 prisoners were released in error.
Justice Secretary David Lammy said Kebatu was scheduled to be transferred to an immigration removal centre to be deported. But due to "human error, he was instead released into the community."
Sky’s Mollie Malone says there are "plenty of questions" for the prison service and the government about how this "embarrassing episode" happened.
