Speaking to Sky’s Trevor Phillips, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy was asked about the number of prisoners who have been wrongly released.
"The figure that is publicly available is four", she said.
"Under the last government, for quite some time, there were on average 17 wrong releases" she said. "Under this government that has risen. It’s 22. That is completely unacceptable."
She repeats the government’s position that it is "gripping" the issue, citing a review being led by Dame Lynne Owens.
Nandy says that is "not to make excuses" and it is now Labour’s problem.
