As COP30 moves through its final week in the shadow of the Amazon rainforest, it’s impossible to ignore the stark changes in the region for over the past century, especially after deforestation due to mining, agriculture, and new roads. Now there is a new gamble on the table, a global fund that implores countries to keep their forests standing, in return for getting paid.
