The purchase of the Daily Telegraph by the publisher of the Daily Mail is a "smart move" that will ensure the survival of both titles, according to a former editor of The Spectator.
Fraser Nelson said "the industry is fighting for its survival and joining forces makes sense".
DMGT confirmed on Saturday it was buying the Daily Telegraph and its sister Sunday title for £500m.
