Past president of the Law Society of England and Wales, Richard Atkinson has told Sky News that scrapping jury trials "is not justified" and will have "serious consequences" for those involved in a trial.
It has been reported that the government could take away the right to a jury trial for all cases but murder, manslaughter, and rape, as well as those in the "public interest" as it attempts to cut the court backlog.
