A group of researchers and local community members rediscovered a rare flower called Rafflesia hasseltii in the rainforests of Sumatra, Indonesia. A parasitic plant that hides inside tropical vines for most of its lifecycle, the Rafflesia hasseltii belongs to a genus that contains some of the world’s largest flowers. They are native to the Indonesian island of Sumatra and are also a national symbol.
