Pope Leo has begun a three-day trip to Lebanon with a challenge to the country’s political leaders to become true peacemakers.
On the second leg of his first overseas visit as pontiff, the Pope has also appealed to the people of Lebanon to embrace reconciliation within their divided land. Lebanon is a Muslim-majority country, but around a third of the population are Christians. Israel is still carrying out airstrikes in the south, despite a ceasefire being in place.
