Sir Brian Leveson has told Sky News the judicial system is in the worst state it has even been – and reform is urgently needed.
The retired Court of Appeal judge was asked by the Lord Chancellor to review how to reduce the backlog in the courts.
His solution – to cut jury trials for cases where a prison sentence was likely to be less than three years – has caused consternation in some areas.
But he told Sky News the judicial system "needs to get through cases quicker".
