US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said during a cabinet meeting with Trump on December 2 that the administration supports its commanders’ decisions in operations targeting alleged Venezuelan drug-smuggling vessels, while shifting responsibility for a second strike on survivors of a first strike in the Caribbean to Admiral Mitch Bradley and said it was the “right call.”
The incident has prompted calls in Congress for an investigation, with lawmakers warning the killings could amount to a war crime under international law.
