In Gaza, the Rafah crossing is set to open in the next few days in order to let Palestinian residents into Egypt — though not to allow aid deliveries.
The Israeli military says the arrangement is in accordance with the October ceasefire deal with Hamas. The move would be coordinated with Egypt under the supervision of the European Union mission, similar to a mechanism that operated in January 2025. There’s no detail yet on whether the exiting Palestinians will be able to return. Israel doesn’t want the crossing to allow aid deliveries, which mainly arrive in Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing. On this, we spoke with Egyptian foreign minister Badr Abdelatty, asking him if he could confirm that the Rafah crossing will partially re-open – and how that will work.
