Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says the second phase of the US plan to end the war in Gaza is close. But he cautioned that several key issues still need to be resolved, including whether a multinational security force will be deployed.
He was speaking as German Chancellor Friedrich Merz made his first official visit to Israel.
While Merz underlined that "Germany must stand up for the existence and security of Israel" and spoke of his country’s historical responsibility, he also said that a two-state solution would be the best way forward for future peace in the region. But his claim has been rejected by Prime Minister Netanjahu.
