M23 armed group says it will withdraw from Uvira in eastern DRC

The M23 armed group, which is allegedly backed by Rwanda, says it’s withdrawing from the city of Uvira in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. The rebels seized the city last week– days after a ceasefire agreement was signed in Washington DC between the leaders of the DRC and Rwanda. The group has agreed to withdraw from Uvira, following pressure from the US. The region is a strategic location on the country’s eastern border. Matilda Mothoatlhaga begins our coverage
