When the Kremlin launched its full-scale invasion in 2022, many expected it to be over in days or weeks. Almost four years in, the tactics may have changed, but President Vladimir Putin’s objectives have not. Putin has warned he will achieve his goals in Ukraine by force – if diplomacy fails. Speaking at an annual meeting with his top military leaders, Putin praised the United States for its willingness to negotiate with him. He wasn’t so complimentary about Europe’s leaders, calling them "little pigs."
