US and Venezuela trade barbs during UNSC session

US Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz and Venezuela’s UN representative Samuel Moncada traded barbs during a UN Security Council session in New York on December 23.

Waltz said the US will impose sanctions “to the maximum extent” to cut off resources to Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, accusing him of funding terror groups. Moncada rejected the accusations, insisting the threat is Washington itself. Russia and China who back Venezuela, also accused Washington of illegal aggression and intimidation.
