Christmas marked in Bethlehem and Gaza under fragile ceasefire

Christmas celebrations returned to Bethlehem and Gaza this year, as Palestinian Christians marked the holiday under a fragile ceasefire and ongoing Israeli violations. A 15-metre Christmas tree was lit in Manger Square, while church leaders and displaced residents expressed hope for peace and reconstruction amid widespread destruction and humanitarian shortages in Gaza.
Despite the ceasefire since October 10, continued violence, restricted aid, and the collapse of Bethlehem’s tourism-based economy show how the conflict still overshadows Christmas in the birthplace of Jesus. Tayyibe Aydin has the story.
