“Unlike Palestine, Somaliland is not a virtual state. It’s a functioning state”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar made the comments while visiting the breakaway region upon an invitation from the leader of Somaliland regime, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi, after Israel became the first country to recognise Somaliland on December 26, 2025.
Palestine, which is recognised by 157 UN member states, is under illegal Israeli occupation.
