Clashes broke out between police and local residents in India on Wednesday as authorities carried out demolition work on structures described as “encroaching” on land near a mosque, leaving five police officers injured and five people detained.
According to Indian media reports, a team of around 300 officials and workers began demolition operations under a court order targeting structures said to be in violation of property regulations in an area near a mosque and a cemetery in New Delhi.
