Heavy winds, snow and freezing temperatures have hit large parts of western Europe. With the arrival of Storm Goretti, forecasters have issued severe weather warnings. Britain’s Met Office has issued a rare red wind warning for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly in southwestern England, forecasting strong winds of up to 160 kilometers per hour and dangerous coastal conditions. In France, fierce winds left hundreds of thousands of households without electricity. Germany’s northern regions have also experienced heavy snow and strong winds, disrupting schools, hospitals and transport links.
