In Boostedt, a village of 6,000 residents in northern Germany, the arrival of some 1,000 asylum seekers has reshaped the present and future. It started in 2015 when Germany experienced a major arrival of asylum seekers and a shelter was opened right next to the village. Ever since, Hartwig Puhlmann, a local resident, has been serving as a resource for locals and asylum seekers alike as they navigate the changes, opportunities and challenges of the past decade.
