Russia’s Venezuela alliance in doubt after US capture of Maduro

Russia’s alliance with Venezuela is in doubt after the US capture of President Nicolas Maduro, threatening Moscow’s foothold in the Western Hemisphere. As ties with Washington improve, the Kremlin has softened its response, fuelling speculation of a wider geopolitical trade-off over Ukraine and the post-Soviet space. A potential return of Venezuelan oil to global markets could also deal Russia an economic blow. Dasha Chernyshova reports from Moscow.
