Russia’s alliance with Venezuela is in doubt after the US capture of President Nicolas Maduro, threatening Moscow’s foothold in the Western Hemisphere. As ties with Washington improve, the Kremlin has softened its response, fuelling speculation of a wider geopolitical trade-off over Ukraine and the post-Soviet space.
