The war in eastern Ukraine remains deadlocked as US-mediated talks continue, with Russia and Ukraine deeply divided over control of the Donbas region. Russia claims four eastern and southern provinces it does not fully control, while Ukraine views key cities like Kramatorsk and Sloviansk as vital defensive strongholds protecting the rest of the country.
