Remains of final Israeli hostage identified and returned to Israel | DW News

The remains of the last Israeli hostage abducted by Hamas have been identified and returned to Israel. Members of Israel’s Knesset applauded when Prime-minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered the news on Monday. Ran Gvili was a special forces policemen who was killed fighting Hamas militants on October 7th, 2023. His body was taken to Gaza. The army says the remains of the 24 year old were recovered during a special operation at a cemetery in Northern Gaza over the weekend. Hamas says the return of Gvili’s body shows the group’s "commitment" to the ceasefire – which entered its second phase earlier this month.
