Speaking with FRANCE 24’s Mark Owen, Simon Mabon, Professor of International Politics and Middle East Studies at Lancaster University, says that the latest Iranian unrest ‘seems qualitatively different in terms of the size of the protests, the breadth of groups involved in the protests and in terms of the sheer ferocity of the regime’s response’ adding that ‘this points to a regime that is in a dire financial, political and social state’.
