For the second time in its history, Costa Rica will have a female president after conservative candidate Laura Fernandez secured nearly half of the vote in Sunday’s election. The 39-year-old is from the same government as the outgoing President Rodrigo Chaves. The former planning minister has promised to tackle drug-related violence. Paul Hawkins reports.
