A man accused of killing 15 people at a Hanukkah celebration on Sydney’s Bondi Beach has appeared in court for the first time.
Naveed Akram briefly appeared via video link from prison to confirm he understood the charges against him while wearing prison greens, with a shaved head and long stubble.
Akram and his father Sajid are accused of opening fire on members of the Jewish community who were celebrating Hanukkah at the famous beach.
Sajid was killed at the time, while Akram will appear again in March for another process hearing.
