Ramadan volleyball tournament held in Gaza’s Bureij camp

Residents of the Bureij refugee camp in Deir al Balah, Gaza, are marking Ramadan with a street volleyball tournament held in memory of camp residents killed in Israeli attacks.

Organised by the camp’s Popular Committee, the matches begin after afternoon prayers, with nets set up along narrow alleyways that transform into open-air courts before sunset. Young players compete as families watch from nearby buildings and balconies.

The coach, Mohammed Abu al-Salim al-Krenz, said the initiative came after sports halls and public playgrounds were destroyed, forcing organisers to bring games onto the streets to ensure young people could continue playing.
