Iran’s Revolutionary Guards said Saturday they launched a large-scale barrage of missiles and drones against Israel following a joint US-Israeli strike on Iranian territory.
Explosions were also reported in several Middle Eastern and Gulf countries, including Jordan and Bahrain, both hosting US military assets, prompting temporary airspace closures.
Earlier, Iranian state TV said Tehran was preparing a “harsh response.” Israel described its early Saturday strike, dubbed “Lion’s Roar,” as “preemptive” and declared a nationwide state of emergency.
US President Donald Trump confirmed that American forces launched “major combat operations” in Iran to “protect the American people by eliminating imminent threats.”
The escalation comes amid ongoing Washington-Tehran nuclear talks, mediated by Oman, with a new round in Geneva concluding Thursday.
