Reza Pahlavi is the eldest son of the last shah – who was deposed in the 1979 Islamic Revolution – and he has said he wants to be a key figure in building a new, democratic Iran.
His chief of staff, Cameron Khansarinia, has told Sky News that he believes the exiled crown prince has the "vision and the popular support" to lead Iran after the country’s supreme leader was killed.
Asked by Sky’s Yalda Hakim if Pahlavi remains a viable option for leadership, he says: "He’s not the only viable option. He’s in fact the only option that can lead Iran to true peace."
