Far-right activist Jake Lang held a demonstration titled “Stop the Islamic Takeover of New York City” outside the residence of Muslim NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani on March 7. Lang’s protest opposed what he labelled the “Islamification” of the city and called for an end to public Muslim prayer in New York.
Around 20 demonstrators associated with Lang were met by roughly 120 counter-protesters gathered nearby.
As tensions escalated, scuffles broke out between the two groups. Officials reported that six people were arrested, including one individual who allegedly used pepper spray on a counter-protester. Two counter-protesters were also taken into custody for allegedly using smoke-producing devices during the confrontation.
