In a scathing attack on the government, the general secretary of the Unite union has suggested the Labour party is "no longer the voice of workers" and predicted that members would vote to disaffiliate from the party if a vote was held today.
Sharon Graham suggested that Sir Keir Starmer may be forced out as PM after the May elections "because I think Labour are going to pretty much be decimated in those elections."
Unite is one of the UK’s biggest unions and previously paid a £1.45m fee to the Labour party for affiliation, before voting to reduce that amount by 40% over the Birmingham bin strike.
She says the government doesn’t understand "how bad" the anger is from "working people" about the lack of delivery on areas like workers’ rights.
