Yemen’s Houthis have joined the Iran war – a serious escalation in the hostilities. The militant group, which is allied with the regime in Tehran, had been sitting on the sidelines for the first four weeks of the conflict. That has now changed with an attack targeting Israel.
The Houthis have threatened targeting vessels in the narrow Bab el-Mandeb Strait, the fourth busiest global shipping route. This is raising fears of a global shipping disruption in the Red Sea.
