Germany says there is ‘great potential’ for economic collaboration with Syria, as the Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, welcomed Syrian President, Ahmed Alsharaa, to Berlin. It is the Syrian leader’s second visit to Europe since he took power following the fall of Bashar al Assad and the trip is being seen as the next stage in the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the two sides.
