Iran’s Kharg Island has been hit by several strikes, according to a report from the Iranian Mehr news agency.
Security and defence analyst Professor Michael Clarke said "if Kharg Island is being struck heavily, and it sounds as if it might be being, then that immediately puts Iran into a deep crisis."
"If you destroy what’s on Kharg Island, the Iranian economy will shudder to a halt," he added.
