Explosions and thick plumes of smoke were reported in Nabatieh, southern Lebanon, on April 16, following a series of Israeli air strikes. The attacks occurred as Israeli offences continued in the border town of Bint Jbeil, described by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as a ”key strategic target”.
An Israeli strike also destroyed the last bridge over the Litani River, further isolating parts of southern Lebanon. Hezbollah announced retaliatory rocket attacks on Israel, triggering sirens in northern Israeli towns.
Israeli forces have killed at least 1,100 people and wounded over 4,000 in southern Lebanon since March 2.
