Trump warns against ‘blackmail’ as Iran tightens Hormuz control

President Donald Trump said on Saturday, April 18, that Iran would not be able to pressure the United States by shutting down the Strait of Hormuz, after Tehran warned mariners the key energy corridor had been closed again and reports emerged of at least two vessels coming under fire.

Trump added that Washington was engaged in “very good conversations” with Iran, but accused Tehran of “getting a little cute” by attempting to block the strait once more. He said the U.S. was “taking a tough stand” and promised further updates later in the day.

Iran, meanwhile, said it was tightening its control over the Strait of Hormuz, warning that the crucial shipping route was once again shut.
Tehran framed the move as a response to what it described as an ongoing U.S. blockade of Iranian ports, calling it a breach of the ceasefire.
