Aid workers under fire: no end to impunity? | Bigger Than Five

Israel’s assault on Lebanon is following a familiar pattern—seen in Gaza: aid workers killed in record numbers, “over 1,000 humanitarians in just the last three years,” according to UN Humanitarian Chief Tom Fletcher—alongside mass displacement and violations of international law.

On this episode of Bigger Than Five, Fletcher warns of a “lethal pattern” where “parties to the conflict are reckless with our lives”. The law is clear, he says—“do not attack civilians… do not attack humanitarians”—yet these war crimes are unfolding in plain sight.

If the rules no longer protect those risking their lives to save others, and the perpetrators aren’t named, how can anyone be held accountable?
