Overnight Ukrainian drone attacks injure three in Russia’s Cheboksary

A series of overnight Ukrainian drone attacks injured three people in the Russian city of Cheboksary, located more than 900 kilometres east of the Ukrainian border on May 5, according to the regional health ministry. Unconfirmed local media reports indicated damage to a defence enterprise, a local college, a shopping centre and residential buildings. Russia’s Defence Ministry said its forces destroyed 289 Ukrainian drones overnight across 18 regions.

The strike on Cheboksary is believed to involve a long-range FP-5 Flamingo cruise missile that hit the JSC VNIIR-Progress military electronics plant, which produces components for Russian drones, cruise missiles and other precision weapons. Drones also damaged an apartment building, with at least eight apartments affected and residents evacuated.
