A tour guide captured the dramatic initial moments as Indonesia’s Mount Dukono erupted on May 8, killing at least three people. Indonesian authorities say 15 people from a group of 20 who went missing after the eruption have been found and taken to hospital.
The area had been closed to visitors, with Indonesia’s Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation having banned visitors from entering within four kilometres of the crater since December 2025 due to increased volcanic activity.
