Passengers of the hantavirus-stricken MV Hondius cruise ship are returning to Britain – so what’s next for them, and how will UK officials ensure the virus doesn’t spread?
The passengers will be taken to Arrowe Park hospital in the Wirral, where they will remain for 72 hours under strict infection control measures. If they remain virus-free, they will then self-isolate at home for 45 days.
In 2020, the same hospital housed British nationals returning from China at the start of the COVID pandemic – but health officials say the public risk from hantavirus is comparatively much lower.
