Belgian MEP Marc Botenga says EU sanctions on violent Israeli settlers are largely “cosmetic” — a “baby step” that changes little while Europe continues “funding, financing and arming” Israel. Speaking to Ghida Fakhry, Botenga points out that attacks by settlers in the occupied West Bank are not new and have been described by the EU External Action Service as “settler terrorism” — yet Brussels still refuses wider action against Israel. “If this is terrorism,” he says, “then sanctioning one or two organisations is not going to cut it.”
