Israeli forces opened fire on a family’s car in the Tel Rumeida area of Hebron in the occupied West Bank, killing seven-month-old Palestinian infant Sam Fahd Abu Haikal and injuring both parents, despite reports the vehicle complied with a stop order.
The Israeli military claimed troops fired at a vehicle they believed was approaching them, while an initial inquiry indicated the victims were civilians not involved in any hostilities.
Speaking to local media, the father said a bullet passed through his hand and struck baby Sam, who was being held by his mother in the back seat. “I stopped as I was instructed to, and then they simply shot at the car,” he said. “There was no clear checkpoint, just soldiers standing in the street. I stopped when I was asked to, and then the shooting started,” he added.
