Multiple deaths reported across France amid severe heat wave

At least 55 people have drowned in France while trying to cool off during the country’s record-breaking heatwave, according to Sports Minister Marina Ferrari. Authorities fear the toll could rise as 61 departments remain under red heat alerts and 25 under orange alerts, with temperatures expected to reach 41°C (106°F). The government has activated the highest level of its ORSAN health emergency plan as hospitals face increasing pressure from heat-related emergencies. In Paris, officials have also banned public alcohol consumption during the daytime as part of measures to reduce health risks amid the extreme weather.
