Explosions rock Damascus during Macron’s visit to Syria

Explosions occurred in Damascus on July 7 near the hotel where French President Emmanuel Macron was staying, with smoke rising over the Halbuni area. 18 people were injured in the explosions, including four police officers, according to Syria’s state news agency. The blasts happened while Macron was on an official visit meeting Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa at the People’s Palace. Macron did not hear the explosions, according to the Elysee, and continued with his schedule. He is the first EU head of state to visit Syria since the fall of the Assad regime in 2024. The cause of the blasts remains unclear
