Live: NATO leaders’ summit begins in Ankara | DW News

Leaders from NATO member countries gather in Turkey for the annual summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. The summit comes after months of transatlantic friction, mostly related to US anger at European allies for what the Trump administration sees as failing to support Washington on its war against Iran.

The leaders of NATO’s 32 member states will attend the summit, joined by various other world leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The leaders are expected to discuss the war in Ukraine and renew pledges to support Kyiv.

Ahead of the summit, the Turkish government has been accused of silencing dissent, banning protests until 10 July, and carrying out arrests, including popular local comedians.
