Africa Matters: El Obeid Siege

Around half a million people are trapped in El Obeid, as fighting intensifies between the Sudan army and RSF. Food, water and medicine are running low, raising fears that the worse may yet to come. Thousands have joined anti-migrant marches across South Africa, but many reject xenophobia, saying only the government should enforce immigration laws. But the anti-migrant campaign has spilled over into neighbouring Eswatini, as more migrants cross through informal border routes. Meanwhile, more people of Senegalese heritage are leaving France to settle in Senegal, as the rise of the far-right fuels uncertainty among African communities.
